Securing Your Semi-Trailer from Theft

You just picked up a load and are now traveling to the location to drop it off. You will have to stop along the way and spend the night somewhere. How can you secure your truckload in the semi-trailer and prevent it from theft? Below are some ways to help you keep the load safe on your trailer.

Planning Ahead

It is always best to try to plan your route with a designated truck stop to park at for the night in advance. If that is not an option, make sure to stop in a well-lit area, preferably where there are cameras. If possible, back the dry van in, where the doors cannot be opened. Always be aware of your surroundings and any cars or smaller trucks that may have followed you.

Security Tools

There are various mechanical tools you can use for security. One is a king pin lock. This goes onto the king pin to prevent the trailer from being detached from the truck. It is also important to make sure that your trailer door locking rods and latches are in good condition. You can also use a heavy-duty pad lock or a swing door lock and place them on the doors to keep them locked. Chain and locks work well too.

Modern Technology

Modern day technology has created some good devices as well to help. A dash cam can help with the surroundings around the truck, as well as its other uses. It also serves as a good deterrent. GPS devices placed in the trailer are commonly used now. These are good to have even to track the trailer all together. They can be placed inside or on top of the trailer. A tracker can even be placed with the cargo to make it trackable as well.
