Natural disasters can happen at any time throughout the year. Whether it be wildfires, flooding, tornadoes, blizzards, or hurricanes, there is always a chance for a disaster to strike anywhere. When it does, all types of supplies are needed in the affected areas. Below are some of the most needed items that are transported via semi-trailers and truckers:
- Items to prepare for a coming storm
- Rescue items/equipment
- Clean up items
- Generators
- Fuel
- Items to help with communication and reconstruction
- Personal items for those affected by the disaster, such as water, food, medical supplies, clothing, and hygiene products.
Trucking’s Contributions
Disaster relief efforts could not be made without using the trucking industry. Truck drivers are essential, resilient, and always willing to help in times of need. They truly are heroes. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will work with trucking companies to quickly fulfill the needs of the area/areas with damage. Disaster relief aids, charities, and donation drop-off centers created by businesses/people also need ways to transport what they have collected for the relief efforts. Trucking works great for all of these.
Semi-trailers/dry vans are often the best way to transport large amounts of supplies from across the country to places in need. They have the capacity to hold more and can handle heavier loads, like water. Flatbed semi-trailers can also be a great help when it comes to aiding deliveries, as they can carry heavy equipment to help with clean-up or rebuilding. They are also great transportation for large items like lumber and sheet rock.
Tractor trailers can often access or close to areas where, if necessary, supplies can be distributed to other vehicles, such as helicopters and ATVs. That way, supplies can reach areas where vehicles such as cars and trucks cannot travel. The semi-trailers can then store those items while they are being distributed.
Thank you to all of the dedicated truck drivers who keep our country rolling in good times and bad!
